About Sue Wolff

About Sue Wolff: I am an educational practitioner and consultant in the area of using networked technologies to facilitate project-based approaches to personal and professional development. My mission is to help create learning environments, situations, and resources which allow people to learn and grow in the natural world and civic contexts.

Background: I have been involved in Washington State education and education reform intermittently for twenty years. When the Washington State essential academic learning requirements were first crafted, I served on some state-level development and review committees. I first learned about authentic performance-based assessment and competency portfolios when developing a teacher training library for the Northwest Regional Laboratory, and, one of the early registration and training tracking systems for a regional Standards and Assessment consortium.

I’m the parent of three grown children and before becoming a professional educator, I took numerous leadership roles on school site councils and student advocacy groups. Over the past twelve years, I taught secondary students as a learning support advisor, career and technical technology teacher (Cisco), school to work coordinator, and senior project coach. About five years ago, smaller learning communities gained my attention, and I started to imagine how our technologies could someday free young people to learn more outside the four walls of school. I then sought and recently completed a Masters degree in Educational Technology through Pepperdine University, which emboldened me to dream even bigger. Now I am pursuing change and seeking collaborators at the far edges of the system.

At the moment, I am researching the status of alternate routes to graduation in the United States, beginning with a comparison of Washington State to other education and workforce reform leaders. I am experimenting with this blog as a venue for collection, commenting, reflection, and attracting others working in related areas of educational opportunity.

I will blog and collect resources on this site, but if you are interested in my services or my work, contact me here.
